Dr. Firdevs Gunes is dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Bartin in northern Turkey. She says many parents allow their children to watch cartoons for several hours every day, as they complete their obligations and children are busy enough to not disturb them. After sitting in front of the television for a while Dean says children gradually become aggressive, that behavior changes drastically, have signs of sleep disorder and attention is often distracted.

Some studies state that if a child is under 3 years old and watching TV will have difficulties in speech development because at that age they can not follow the course of events and focus on color, light and the change of voice. Children under 6 years old should not watch TV more than an hour or 2.

According to Dr. Gunes you as a parent have to have 3 house rules.

  • No TV in the children’s room.
  • Children attending primary school will not be allowed to watch TV more than 4 hours per week
  • Children under 5 years should not watch TV
